How to pay for a baby shower at a restaurant?

I am planning a baby shower for my best friend.
I am thinking of doing it at a restaurant. I am inviting around 10-15 people (women)

I have a few questions:

1. Who pays the meals?
2. Should I ask for money instead of gifts?
3. What can we do besides eating. should we play a game ? Please help…

Any ideas?

Answer
the person holding the shower is supposed to pay for everything, unless you have a co-host, then the cost is split. i wouldnt suggest doing it at a resturant as it could get pricey, and you cant ask for money instead of gifts as it is not your shower it is your friends, so even if you did ask for money instead, it would go to your friend, not you…who would still end up paying the bill….you could possibly suggest the idea to people who will be invited and see if they would be willing to pay for their own meals or chip in 15-20$ each so that you dont have to pay for it all, but do not ask for money instead of gifts unless that is what the mother to be wants. and as for what you can do, you will be opening gifts, but i dont know what games you could play at a resturant other then the “dont say baby game”

Practical and Fun Baby Shower Games

This is an interesting Q and A:

Should a baby shower be held before or after the baby arrives?

My family traditionally holds the shower after, just to ensure the baby arrives with no problems and so people have a chance to see him/her. My husbands family and friends and it seems like many others hold the shower before so the parents to be will have the things they need when the baby comes. I was just wondering what the tradition is around other areas?

Answer
I’d say that most people tend to have them before baby arrives, when mom is 7 or 8 months pregnant. I think all of the showers I’ve been to have been around this time.

However, I see no reason not to wait until baby arrives to have the shower. It’s *awesome* to get to see the new baby and it’s just *so much easier* to choose a gift when you know baby’s sex, birth weight, and bottle or breast preference!! I’d say the only drawback to this approach would be that you might not be wild about attending a party when you just gave birth, especially if you have a Csection. And you would also want to *insist* that people thoroughly wash their hands before touching or holding the new baby – the little guys get sick so easily that first month or so.

It’s your baby shower, so do what works best for your family! You will have a great time either way. Here’s a link to my favorite baby shower idea ever – a diaper cake! Have a look, they’re gorgeous, and enjoy your baby shower!

Hope you enjoy this Q and A:

How do I decline going to a baby shower?

One of my old co-workers invited me to a baby shower and I really don’t wanna go (I’m a guy and will probably be the only guy there). I work in an office of all women and we’ve had a few baby showers at work and I just can’t get into all the oohs and aahs over baby clothes and stuff.

How do I get out of it? Aren’t baby showers supposed to be for women anyway?

Answer
It was a nice invite, but just say Your busy with other plans that day and your sorry.YOu might want t send a card her way, or even a gift card to a baby place. That was they know you are sincere

I thought this Q and A was interesting:

What is the best baby shower gift you can buy for someone?

My cousin is having a baby and she already had a shower with the other side of her family. She got a lot of big things from that shower and the only things left on her registry are small or REALLY expensive. I want to get her something she will use ALOT (I already know diapers). Other than diapers what is the BEST gift I can get.

Answer
A Moby Wrap! My friend got one as a gift and says it’s the best thing she never knew she needed. They are wonderful with a newborn because you can just wear the baby everywhere hands-free, no lugging them around in one of those awful heavy infant carrier/carseat things. Great way to get stuff done around the house too, when you have an infant who doesn’t want to be put down.

EDIT: Also ask her about diapers before you buy those, as more moms are going back to cloth these days.

I saw this Q and A and thought I would share it:

What is the average number of attendees for a baby shower ?

I am attending a family baby shower in a of couple weeks and was wondering about the average number of attendees for baby showers. What is the etiquette regarding the time length of the shower when you are expecting 30 attendees..?

Answer
there is no real average for that. it all just depends on how many people are close to you and how many you can comfortably fit in the party area. Any baby shower i have been to though, had immediate family and some friends and their kids. that probably averaged out to maybe 30 people. And i think they lasted between 3 and 5 hours.

Baby Shower Favors –Homemade Soaps

An interesting Q and A:

How exactly does a baby shower work?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how a baby shower works. I’m currently 6 months pregnant so am I supposed to throw my own baby shower? Generally when does one have a baby shower? My mom said she wanted to throw a baby shower for me and if she does am I supposed to help pay for it? I’d just like to know everything about bs’s. I’m asking in the newborns section because i’m guessing that since you’ve already had your babies then you’ve also already had your baby shower. I’m having a boy if it matters. Please and thank you :)

Answer
You most certainly do NOT throw your own baby shower! Your mom or a good friend normally throws it and arranges/pays for everything. You can have a giant baby shower at a restaurant or a nice home baby shower (I prefer the ones at home – not as expensive and more intimate which this should be). Usually it’s held when you are about 8 months pregnant – gives you time to buy whatever you need that you don’t get at the shower. Babies R Us and Target/Wal-Mart are good places to register and when the planner sends out the invites she can include where you are registered. By the way, I love when people register someplace…that way I know what you want/need!!! Makes my life easier. Make sure to registration has a nice variety of price ranges going from a crib to a pack of diapers.

I thought this Q and A was interesting:

Any ideas for original baby shower games and favors?

My friend and I are throwing a baby shower and we don’t want to play the same baby shower games we have played at every other shower. Also, we would like to do something original for the favors as well. We only have a week until the shower and we need help! Any suggestions?

Answer
I JUST THOUGHT OF A GAME FOR MY OWN. I WAS GOING TO HAVE EVERYONE WRITE DOWN A FUNNY OR EMBARRASSING EXPERIENCE THEY HAD WITH THEIR OWN CHILD OR A RELATIVES CHILD AND RANDOMLY READ THEM OUT LOUD AND TAKE SOME GUESS AS TO HOW IS WAS

The Top Three Popular Baby Shower Games That You Can Play

I thought this Q and A was interesting:

What has been your favorite baby shower food?

I’m planning a baby shower for the first time. What has been your favorite food at a shower? I’m thinking it will begin sometime between noon and two pm. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Answer
Finger Sandwiches with either tuna, egg salad, chicken salad, or ham and cheese for examples. Egg rolls, small sausages wrapped in the Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, potato salad, macaroni salad.

I went to a baby shower not too long ago and instead of a cake, the hostess made cute decorated cupcakes with pink and blue paper cups and matching icing with sprinkles and a little boy or girl trinket on top. The mother-to-be was having twins (a boy and a girl) so it really turned out nice.
